Who's Wine is it Anyway!?
CYSPG members met up for a hugely popular cross-professional wine tasting event in August at the Punter in Cambridge.
Members from the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the MATRICS (Chartered Surveyors) joined us for a
blind tasting of wines from around the world followed by some of the Punter's legendary gastro-pub food.
The event was kindly sponsored by Bailey Fisher Executive Search.
Matthew Boucher from Cambridge Wine Merchants briefed us on the essentials of tasting and then served six wines from bottles
with their labels masked from view. Our task was to guess as much as possible about the wine and where it was from.
Extra marks were awarded for the best descriptions of the wines with champagne prizes for the most flamboyant and accurate.
In true blind-tasting style, when the bottle covers were revealed, the most popular wine by taste unexpectedly turned out to be a
German White: 2006Peter Reinert Saar Reisling . It was also the cheapest at £7 per bottle!
Finally we were left with some useful tips on how to respond convincingly,
when a client or friend invites you to a meal and asks you “what do you think of the wine!?”
