Who does what?
Here is a list of the Cambridge YSPG committee positions, and what each job involves. To get involved, contact any of the current committee.
Chairperson
The Chairperson shall be the chief representative of the CYSPG and shall have principle responsibility for the management of the CYSPG's affairs and the promotion of the CYSPG's policies. The objective of the Chair's role is to secure as much promotion (locally, nationally and internationally), advertisement and awareness of the CYSPG and it's activities and to increase the appeal of the CYSPG to it's current and former sponsors and members. The Chair will also consider and present to the Executive Committee policies, which will benefit the changing needs of the members. In doing so the Chairperson will review all of the CYSPG's activities and report to the Executive Committee at least once a year at the Annual General Meeting.
Vice-Chairperson
The Vice-Chairperson shall be the Chairperson's deputy, taking the role of the Chairperson in their absence. The Vice-Chairperson shall also be responsible for the organisation of academic and educational events. The objective of the role of the Vice-Chairperson is to assist in the development and furtherance of the CYSPG. This shall include academic and educational events on issues of importance to the membership. The Vice-Chairperson shall undertake a review of the interests of the membership at least once a year and report to the Executive Committee at the Annual General Meeting.
Secretary
The General Secretary shall be responsible for keeping a record of all the business discussed at meetings of the Executive Committee and at the Annual General Meeting of the CYSPG. The General Secretary shall have responsibility for the general administration of the CYSPG and act as returning officer at the Annual General Meeting. General Secretary will review the status of the CYSPG and the CYSPG's risk management procedures. Further, the General Secretary will assist the NCL to process the information received from the National Young Solicitors' Group and other relevant organisations to ensure cooperation and maintained relations with groups/companies that are beneficial to the objectives of the CYSPG.
Treasurer
The Treasurer shall have responsibility for all matters relating to the finances of the CYSPG and ensure that all finances are used in accordance with the aims of the CYSPG and with the permission of the Executive Committee. The Treasurer shall maintain an accurate and up to date account of all the CYSPG's assets and liabilities. The CYSPG accounting year shall end on the 31st December each year upon which date the Treasurer must submit an annual report to the Executive Committee. All cheques must be signed by the Treasurer and counter-signed by the Chairperson and/or Vice-Chairperson
Membership Secretary
The Membership Secretary shall be responsible for all matters relating to the membership of the CYSPG, shall keep an up to date list of all the current members and be responsible for dealing with membership renewals and the collection of subscription money. It shall be the objective of the Membership Secretary to enlist new members (whether corporate or individuals). Each year a list will be drawn up of suitable targets to approach and be presented to the Executive Committee at the Annual General Meeting.
Sponsorship Secretary
The Sponsorship Secretary shall have responsibility for contacting and liasing with potential sponsors and negotiating the terms of agreement. Final sign-off of all sponsorship agreements requires either the Executive Committees approval (by simple majority) or an emergency approval of the Chairperson. The Sponsorship Secretary shall prepare a target list of firms/companies for membership/sponsorship, which shall be presented to the Executive Committee at the Annual General Meeting.
Social Secretary, Sports Secretary and Events Secretary
The Social Secretary, Sports Secretary and Events Secretary shall be responsible for organising sporting and social occasions and events for the CYSPG's members. They will prepare a sports and social diary of possible events, detailing venues and costings, for presentation to the Executive Committee at the first meeting following the elections. Thereafter they will arrange the events, prepare lists of attendees and manage the events on the night.
